I typically lift heavy, low reps, compound movements, high intensity in the range of 5-8 reps. Leansgains style, basically if you google that you will get the idea. I needed a solution for a vacation home where I don't have the space for a barbell and rack. Right now, a gym is radioactive with Covid-19, so that's out. Cost wasn't really the driving factor, space was. This little gizmo plus an exercise ball and pullup bar are everything I need. You can use the exercise ball to replicate a bench press with this bar, or simply do a standing bench press. Deadlifting works well too. I can even replicate weighted pullups by tying a band around my waist and anchoring it to something heavy on the ground. I have 55lb dumbells for this, but anything with some mass would do.If you google videos by James Grage or the X3 bar, you will discover that there are differences between resistance band training and iron. As an example, when you initiate a deadlift, the toughest part of the lift is at the bottom. This also the point in the lift you often see people injure themselves. With resistance band training, the lift is relatively easy at the bottom and tough at the top. By varying your foot placement, you can introduce tension earlier (lower) in the lift to ensure you have adequate tension throughout the range of motion, but it is possible to achieve tension levels well over 300lb toward the top of the lift with this device. I find that most movements work well in a rest-pause fashion with this bar, so I might pick a band combination where I can do only 6 reps, rest 20 seconds and then do a few more reps, then rest 20 more seconds, and get maybe 2 more reps. I go until I can't do any more reps. I believe going to failure is important with bands because it's really tough to track your progress. A slight variation in foot placement on a deadlift will translate into more or less band tension, which really affects the resistance. Thus, 6 reps one day with your feet 16 inches apart does not equal 6 reps with your feet 17 inches apart a couple of days later. By the same token, a standing bench press is affected by how low or high the band rests on your upper back. The bottom line is you have to go to total failure to ensure you are really progressing. Once I see my reps creeping up to about 10 reps on the initial set, I go to a tougher band (or combination of bands). I'm reasonably strong, and I've been lifting seriously for years, and I will not be able to overcome the reisitance of all bands loaded together for benching. For convenience, I did buy a larger band for deadlifts. I still need to combine multiple bands for deads.As others have stated, it makes sense to buy some larger carabiners. Make sure they are screwed closed completely. The exposed thread of any carabiner can instantly cut any band if it's under enough tension. You might break a band or two over time. Just buy some cheap ones to replace.This system is the most efficient, cost-effective, compact, and portable way to achieve high-intensity resistance training. this set is well made and the bar can handle 300+ pounds of tension. The bands are generic, but they work quite well. I have expensive "brand name" bands also, and these work just as well. After using this system for a month or so, I bought two more of these as gifts and a second one for myself for travel.
